Recycled can: how to make a beautiful lamp

If you are Italian like me, or if you just like pasta a lot, you probably use many many tomato sauce cans, just like me :)

I kept a few, so that I could recycle them and make something nice and since my sewing machine is still hopelessly broken, I decided to make a nice lamp.

All you have to do is deciding a pattern and drawing it on the can with a pencil. Then you have to find something with a quite sharp end, but not too sharp, and start making holes, while trying to keep the can straight. It's not as easy as one might think, but it's doable. When you have all the holes, light a candle and place it inside the can, the result is very sweet!

This is the one I did :)

I think you can clearly see that this is my very first attempt, but I really like it and I think that it would look even better if I cover it with paint. I'll post some pictures later, so we can decide which version is better: "raw" or painted.

Oh! I almost forgot! When you place the candle inside the can you should leave the can where it is, because it tends to get very hot very quickly, so be careful!

Hope you enjoyed it,

Recycled cans - let's organize the kitchen!

I don't know about you, but I am quite messy and tend to leave stuff all over the place :P
I was looking to find a way to keep the sink tidier from all the sponges and stuff and then I had an idea: I was keeping away tomato sauce cans because I thought I could re-use them somehow, but I still didn't know how.
Then I looked on the internet for some inspiration and I found something very interesting. Unfortunately I just gave a quick look to the website and when I went back I wasn't able to find it again. So, now I am going to show you what I made out of three tomato sauce cans (this has been done by heart).
I am also going to post a slow-motion video about it. My friend, who is a video editor, came over and we took hundreds of pictures that now need to be put together, edited and have a nice soundtrack added. It could take a while so, for now, I will just post some pictures.
Hope you like it!!

I don't know if you can see it from the pictures, but to hold the can on the hook, I just used one of those cheap black paper clips that you can find at the supermarket or at Ryman, something like this:

You should try and make one yourself, it's easy, cheap and nice!

Fruit crates

Here's a very good idea to get furniture almost for free.
We moved into our own new place recently and it didn't have much of a furniture. As we are saving money to our next big holiday, we thought we needed to use our creativity instead of just go to Ikea.
So, we went to Brixton market, grabbed a couple of fruit crates, painted them white, cover them with clear varnish and hung them on the wall. And there we have a new shelf for out bathroom!
I know, it doesn't really go with the colour of the wall, but as we can't paint the wall and we only had white paint....we'll leave it like this for now :)
